Manpreet Singh's Injury Sidelines Him from Asian Champions Trophy
Manpreet Singh's Setback Ahead of Asian Champions Trophy
India's leading hockey player, Manpreet Singh, will not participate in the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy due to a calf muscle injury. This news has disappointed many fans who were looking forward to witnessing his remarkable eighth appearance in this prestigious tournament.
Manpreet was on the brink of setting a new milestone as the first Asian athlete to compete in eight editions of the Asian Champions Trophy. The tournament, now gearing up for its ninth edition, holds a special place for the skilled midfielder, who first showcased his talent in the inaugural event held in China back in 2011.
In an interview with The Tribune, Manpreet shared his feelings of disappointment regarding his absence from the tournament, especially since it was a chance to play in front of his home crowd in Punjab.
He stated, “It is a huge disappointment. It was a big opportunity to play on my home ground, but now I won’t be playing. This is where I started playing hockey, and I was so excited. But I don’t know when this opportunity will come my way again.”
Additionally, Manpreet called on the Punjab government to host more international hockey events in the region, expressing his desire to compete in front of his local supporters. “I would urge the Punjab government to organise international tournaments again so that I also get to play here in front of my people,” he remarked.
