Manav Suthar's Impressive Test Debut

Manav Suthar, who has risen through the ranks of domestic cricket, made a remarkable debut for India, earning the Player of the Match title in the game against Afghanistan. His exceptional performance, which included a total of seven wickets, contributed to India's victory by an innings and 300 runs.

Looking ahead, Suthar faces a tougher challenge against Sri Lanka, a team known for its adeptness against spin bowling. The Indian squad is set to compete in a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka from August 15 to 27, as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Reflecting on his performance, Suthar stated, "Once I realized the pitch was somewhat slow and required variations in pace, I made the necessary adjustments. However, my primary focus was to enhance the effectiveness of my stock delivery."

India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, praised Suthar's standout performance, noting, "He bowled exceptionally well and is a promising talent. Over the past few years, he has consistently played for India A and India Emerging. This opportunity was significant for him, and he capitalized on it, even performing well with the bat, which is quite gratifying."

Kotak credited Suthar's development to the BCCI's structured pathways. "In the last three years, he participated in a camp I conducted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence and was part of the India team during the Emerging Asia Cup. The BCCI framework is beneficial, allowing players to gain experience through numerous matches before reaching the Test level. Suthar has been performing consistently for three to four years, and I wish him the best for his future endeavors," Kotak added.

Suthar's significant exposure came during the India A series in Australia. "He played against England in Ahmedabad during a three-match series. His bowling style indicates great promise. He has shown consistency and a strong work ethic. Honestly, from the moment I saw him, I believed he would represent India. The growth of each individual varies, and it depends on how quickly they develop," concluded the batting coach.
