Manav Suthar Makes History with Indian Test Team Selection
Celebration in Sri Ganganagar as Manav Suthar Joins Indian Test Squad
Residents of Sri Ganganagar erupted in joy upon learning that left-arm spinner Manav Suthar has been selected for the Indian Test team by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for an upcoming Test match against Afghanistan.
This selection marks a significant milestone for Suthar, as he becomes the first cricketer from Sri Ganganagar to represent India in Test cricket.
Manav Suthar, known for his classical left-arm orthodox spin, excels at deceiving batsmen with a mix of flight, turn, and pace variations. Additionally, he is a reliable lower-order batsman, establishing himself as a competent bowling all-rounder. Born on August 3, 2002, he currently plays for the Gujarat Titans in the 2026 IPL season.
His rise to the national team is attributed to impressive performances in domestic cricket. In the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season, he was Rajasthan's leading bowler, taking 39 wickets in just six matches.
During this period, he also scored two half-centuries. His standout performance came in the 2024 Duleep Trophy, where he took 7 wickets for 49 runs in a single innings while representing India C against India D. To date, he has accumulated 129 wickets and 945 runs in 29 first-class matches, achieving the milestone of 100 wickets in just 24 matches.
His contributions to India A during the 2023 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup were also noteworthy, where he claimed 10 wickets in five matches, including a five-wicket haul against Australia A.
Playing alongside renowned spinners like Rashid Khan in the Gujarat Titans squad, Suthar has shown remarkable progress.
Vinod Saharan, Secretary of the Sri Ganganagar District Cricket Association, expressed that the atmosphere is filled with happiness among his coach Dheeraj Sharma, his father Jagdish Suthar, a school teacher, and the entire family following this remarkable achievement.
Now that he is part of the Indian Test squad, Manav Suthar is eager to demonstrate his exceptional spin bowling skills against Afghanistan's strong batting lineup.
His journey from a small town to competing in the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and now the Test team exemplifies his dedication, hard work, and talent.
