T20I Squad Announced

On Saturday, June 6, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar revealed the T20I squads for the upcoming matches against Ireland, England, and the Asian Games. The selectors made some significant decisions, including the removal of captain Suryakumar Yadav, who has been replaced by Shreyas Iyer. Additionally, former vice-captain Hardik Pandya has also been left out. Harshit Rana is making a comeback to the national team. Below are the complete changes in the T20I lineup:

New Additions

Shreyas Iyer returns to the T20I squad as the new captain, a recognition of his impressive performance in the IPL. He led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in 2024 and guided Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals to the finals in 2025 and 2020, respectively. Harshit Rana also rejoins the T20I team after recovering from a knee injury sustained before the 2026 T20 World Cup. Ravi Bishnoi and Nitish Kumar Reddy are back in the squad, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav receive their first T20I call-ups, with Prince already part of the ODI team for the Afghanistan series.

Players Excluded

In a surprising move, Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the squad due to his ongoing struggles with form, particularly highlighted by his disappointing IPL performance. Kuldeep Yadav, a member of the T20 World Cup-winning teams in 2024 and 2026, has also been excluded. Mohammed Siraj, selected for the T20Is against Ireland and England, will not participate in the Asian Games, nor will Prince Yadav. Jasprit Bumrah has been included solely in the Asian Games squad, indicating his anticipated return to ODIs for the upcoming series.
