Maharashtra's Dadaso Pujari Shines at Khelo India Beach Games 2026
Dadaso Pujari's Inspiring Journey in Kabaddi
Diu (Daman and Diu) [India], January 6: Dadaso Shivaji Pujari, a promising kabaddi player from Maharashtra, has returned to the Khelo India Beach Games 2026 in Diu, marking a significant milestone in his career that began within the Khelo India framework.
His ascent started at the Khelo India Youth Games in Panchkula, where his impressive skills as a right-corner defender earned him a spot with Puneri Paltan, where he played for three seasons. Now, he is leveraging that experience while competing on the sandy terrain of Ghoghla Beach.
Dadaso's story exemplifies the impact of the Khelo India initiative in nurturing talent for Indian kabaddi, as it not only develops players but also encourages them to return and contribute to the sport after gaining experience on larger stages.
Born in Kolhapur, Dadaso's journey to professional kabaddi began at the Khelo India Youth Games, which paved the way for his inclusion in the Puneri Paltan. He advanced through the Yuva Paltan system and made his mark in the Pro Kabaddi League.
Coming from a humble background, with his father working as a farmer, Dadaso's path to success is particularly meaningful. He started playing kabaddi at the age of 12, inspired by friends in his village. His journey from local school competitions to representing Maharashtra and securing a professional contract was made possible by the structured opportunities offered by Khelo India.
“I owe everything to Khelo India,” Dadaso shared with SAI Media. “The Youth Games in Panchkula opened the doors for me to the Pro Kabaddi League. Even after reaching that level, I feel a strong connection to Khelo India. Coming back to this platform feels like returning home.”
As a skilled right-corner defender recognized for his tactical ankle holds and defensive skills, Dadaso is now facing the unique challenges of beach kabaddi. “Playing on sand is a different experience compared to the mat. The pace is slower, maintaining balance is more difficult, and every tackle demands extra effort. However, these challenges contribute to my growth as a player,” he explained.
Dadaso is among several players with Pro Kabaddi League experience participating in the ongoing Khelo India Beach Games. Approximately seven such players are representing their states, highlighting the depth and talent fostered by the Khelo India Scheme, which has significantly bolstered the Pro Kabaddi League.
These athletes are returning to the national developmental platform, enhancing the Khelo India Beach Games with their experience and skill. The involvement of Pro Kabaddi League players extends beyond the Beach Games; at the recent Khelo India University Games in Jaipur, around 25 players with Pro Kabaddi League backgrounds represented their universities.
This trend illustrates how the Khelo India Scheme has not only strengthened the professional league but also ensured that elite players remain engaged with and uplift national-level competitions.
Dadaso emphasizes the importance of this cycle for the future of Indian kabaddi: “Khelo India provides young players with exposure, confidence, and clear direction. When experienced players return after competing professionally, the competition level rises, inspiring younger athletes,” he stated.
