London [UK], June 9: Lungi Ngidi, the talented fast bowler from South Africa, is determined to fulfill his dream of securing the World Test Championship mace for his country, a victory that could significantly alter the cricketing landscape in South Africa.

After years of disappointment in their quest for an ICC title, South Africa is poised for redemption in the upcoming WTC final against Australia, the reigning champions, set to commence on Wednesday.

Having narrowly missed out on glory in the T20 World Cup final against India last year, the Proteas are now on a winning streak of seven matches, presenting them with another opportunity to claim a prestigious trophy.

Ngidi expressed his emotions, stating, "It's hard to articulate how much this means to us. We've come close in various tournaments over the years. For me, this is the pinnacle of cricket, and bringing this trophy home would be a dream realized," as he shared with ICC Digital.

He added, "I don't want to tempt fate, but it would be incredible. This could shift the focus back to red-ball cricket in South Africa and rejuvenate interest in the format."

As the tournament approaches, while Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen have been in the spotlight, Ngidi has been diligently preparing and feels ready to embrace the challenge ahead.

"I feel well-prepared as I've had ample time to get ready. Playing at Lord's is a dream for any cricketer. I've had the privilege of playing against England there before, and it was an exhilarating experience filled with nerves and excitement," he remarked.

"This time, however, my nerves are much calmer. There's a significant title at stake, but the beauty of Test cricket is that the process remains consistent, which helps me stay relaxed as a player," he concluded.
