On October 6, Lovlina Borgohain, the gold medalist from the 2026 Asian Games, participated in a foot patrol with female police officers in the Rajouri Garden market area as part of a campaign by the Delhi Police focused on enhancing women's safety.

In an interview, Borgohain emphasized the significance of initiatives aimed at improving women's safety and fostering confidence among women to navigate their surroundings without fear.

"This initiative by the Delhi Police is crucial for women's safety and the patrols are a great step forward. It’s fulfilling to contribute to this cause. Winning a medal for India is one achievement, but the remarkable performances by women at the recent Asian Games have inspired many. It shows that we can conquer our fears," Borgohain stated.

She further noted that addressing women's safety from various perspectives could lead to a more positive future.

"When we tackle women's safety from multiple angles, it will have a lasting positive effect. Women desire the freedom to move confidently, making this initiative vital," she remarked.

Borgohain also highlighted the shared responsibility of female athletes to advocate for women's empowerment and contribute to the nation.

"As female athletes, we have a collective duty to focus on our country and promote women's empowerment," she added.

Recently, Borgohain celebrated her 29th birthday in style by clinching the gold medal in the women's 75kg final at the Asian Games 2026, defeating China's Bao Ziyi with a score of 5-0 on October 2. This victory marked India's first gold in this weight category.

In the final match, Lovlina showcased her skillful counter-punching against Bao's aggressive approach, securing a unanimous win.

Despite Bao starting strong with a barrage of punches in the first round, Lovlina's patience paid off as she effectively countered, winning the round 3-2.

As the match progressed, Lovlina's confidence grew, allowing her to land cleaner punches and take the second round 4-1, establishing a 2-0 lead on the judges' scorecards.

With the gold medal within reach, Lovlina maintained her strategy in the final round, evading significant damage while seizing countering opportunities. She was awarded the round unanimously, completing a 5-0 victory and securing the Asian Games title.
