Lovlina Borgohain's Remarkable Achievement

In New Delhi, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain expressed her gratitude for the support from the government and the encouragement from Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, which she believes has greatly motivated the boxing team.

With her recent silver medal, Borgohain has joined the elite ranks of Indian boxers, becoming only the third to achieve medals at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games, following in the footsteps of legends Mary Kom and Vijender Singh. She narrowly lost in a fiercely contested final against Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree.

Reflecting on her Commonwealth Games medal, she described it as a significant milestone, feeling joy despite not clinching the gold.

Looking ahead, Borgohain is determined to improve upon her previous silver at the Asian Games and aims for gold in the next competition.

She stated, "Our boxing team has excelled, and we must acknowledge the tremendous support from our government. The words of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were truly inspiring. It’s an incredible feeling to receive such recognition when we bring medals home for our nation. This was my third Commonwealth Games, and winning my first medal here is a monumental achievement for me. Although winning gold would have been even more satisfying, I am genuinely pleased with this accomplishment, especially since the Commonwealth Games was the only major event where I hadn’t previously medaled. Now, as I prepare for the Asian Games, I want to change the color of my medal from silver to gold. I will definitely work harder to achieve that next time," Borgohain shared.

On Tuesday, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya honored Indian athletes returning from the Commonwealth Games 2026, celebrating their historic achievements in boxing, judo, and para-athletics.

Indian boxer Jadumani Singh also expressed his appreciation after meeting with Sports Minister Mandaviya, noting that the recognition has motivated him to strive for greater success.

He emphasized the team's commitment to enhancing their performances and achieving even more at the upcoming Asian Games, stating, "It feels wonderful to be recognized like this and encouraged to excel. It motivates us to keep improving and working harder. We aim to perform even better in the upcoming Asian Games. We discussed our future goals, and he was very pleased with our plans."

The felicitation ceremony gathered members of the Indian boxing team, which led the medal tally with an impressive total of 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver.

The Union Sports Minister also recognized the judo team, which achieved India's best-ever performance in the Commonwealth Games with four medals, including two historic golds, as well as the para-athletics team, whose remarkable performances in Glasgow marked a significant milestone for Indian para sports.

Medal winners received cash awards of Rs 30 lakh for gold, Rs 20 lakh for silver, and Rs 10 lakh for bronze.
