Celebration in Tauru as Salman Khan Wins Bronze

The small town of Tauru in Nuh district is in high spirits following the remarkable achievement of one of its own. On Wednesday, Salman Khan, who once drove an Uber in the area, proudly stood on the podium at the Asian Games in Japan, adorned with a bronze medal.

Khan, alongside his partner Satnam Singh, secured the bronze in the Men's Double Sculls rowing event at the 20th Asian Games, completing the race in approximately 6 minutes and 13 seconds. They finished behind gold medalists from China and silver medalists from Uzbekistan, outperforming competitors from Iran, Japan, and other countries.

Hailing from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, Khan spent his formative years in Tauru, where his father was involved in truck bodywork. Following his father's untimely passing in 2016, the family returned to their roots, and Khan, the eldest of six siblings, moved to Delhi to provide for them by driving cabs during the day and night.

In 2018, a friend encouraged him to pursue Army recruitment, despite his previous unsuccessful attempt at the written exam, highlighting his physical attributes as an advantage.

This time, he succeeded in the entry process, and a coach later selected him for rowing through the sports quota, a sport he had never previously engaged in.

“We only hoped that joining the Army would provide a stable income for our family. We never anticipated that his involvement in sports would transform our lives in this way,” expressed Adnan, one of Khan's brothers.

Congratulations have been pouring in from various quarters, including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Rowing Federation of India, the Sports Authority of India, and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh MP Dharambir Singh. Locals are also organizing a grand reception for Khan upon his return.
