Liverpool Honors Diogo Jota and Andre Silva with Permanent Memorial at Anfield
A Lasting Tribute at Anfield
Liverpool, UK - On July 3, the club unveiled a permanent memorial at Anfield dedicated to forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, marking the first anniversary of their tragic passing. This memorial serves as a significant place of remembrance for fans and visitors.
Titled "Forever 20," the memorial is located on 97 Avenue, the same spot where countless supporters gathered last year to leave flowers, scarves, and heartfelt messages following the brothers' untimely deaths.
Jota and Silva tragically lost their lives in a car accident in northwestern Spain on July 3, 2025, when their Lamborghini veered off the road and caught fire.
The club shared images of the memorial on social media, stating, "We have installed a permanent memorial at Anfield in tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, on the eve of the first anniversary of their tragic passing."
Artist Emma Rodgers designed the centerpiece, a heart-shaped sculpture that reflects Jota's iconic goal celebration. The artwork also subtly displays the numbers 20 and 30, representing the shirt numbers of Jota and Silva.
The memorial incorporates personal tributes from fans, including pieces of scarves and football shirts embedded within the sculpture. A bronze cast of a flower left by a supporter and a PlayStation controller, symbolizing Jota's love for gaming, are also part of the installation.
Underneath the sculpture, a plinth features a dedication to the brothers, made from stone sourced from their hometown of Gondomar, Portugal, enhancing the memorial's personal significance.
Additionally, the memorial includes lyrics from a Liverpool supporters' chant dedicated to Jota, sung to the tune of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising." Fans honored the brothers by singing this chant during the 20th minute of every home match last season.
Liverpool emphasized that the memorial, "Forever 20," will stand as a permanent symbol of love, unity, and remembrance, providing a space for reflection and respect.
