Litton Das Criticizes Rizwan for Lack of Sportsmanship After Test Series
Controversy Arises After Bangladesh's Victory
In a surprising revelation, Bangladesh's wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das accused Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan of refusing to shake hands with the Bangladesh team following their recent series loss. The two players had several intense exchanges during the matches, but Das was taken aback by Rizwan's apparent grudge against the team off the field. He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, stating that while personal conflicts may arise, it is unprofessional to ignore the customary handshake after a match.
“I found it disappointing. Regardless of what happens during the game, players should always shake hands afterward. After our first Test loss, Rizwan did not come to shake hands, which is unacceptable. No matter how significant a player he is, this behavior is inappropriate, whether in victory or defeat,” Das expressed to a local media outlet.
He further noted that Rizwan repeated this behavior in the second Test, questioning how they could expect respect in future encounters when such disrespect was shown. “He might have personal issues with me, but the entire Bangladesh team did nothing to him. Should we expect anything from him next time?” Das added.
Background of the Tension
During the first Test of the series, Das had a verbal exchange with Rizwan, which was captured by the stump microphone. He remarked on Rizwan's reputation in Pakistan, indicating that he recognized only Babar Azam and Rizwan as significant threats to the Bangladesh team. “I know that Babar Azam and Rizwan are the only two players who can challenge us. Rizwan has a strong average against us, which was on my mind as I aimed to lead my team to victory,” he explained.
Das also recounted a prior incident that left him questioning Rizwan's character, noting that he felt Rizwan was wasting time during a particularly hot day. “I was struggling behind the stumps, and that incident made me decide to confront him,” he concluded. Bangladesh made history by defeating Pakistan 2-0 in the Test series, marking a significant achievement for the team.
