His health had been a concern for some time, with the family revealing his struggles during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Following Argentina's opening match against Algeria on June 18, there were initial reports about his declining health. However, the Messi family quickly refuted rumors of his death, clarifying that he was under medical supervision and making progress.

Lionel Messi, who scored a hat-trick in the match against Algeria, expressed his emotional state during this challenging period. He shared that he had been facing personal difficulties unrelated to football, and he appreciated the support from his teammates and delegation.
