Noskova Triumphs in Berlin

Berlin, Germany - On Sunday, Linda Noskova secured her first grass-court title by defeating Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a thrilling final at the 2026 Berlin Open.

This victory marks Noskova's second WTA singles title, enhancing her overall record in WTA finals to 2-5, as reported by the WTA. The win is significant as it will elevate the Czech player into the Top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time, allowing her to surpass Karolina Muchova and claim the title of the new Czech No. 1.

Noskova has shown remarkable performance when winning the first set, boasting a record of 16-1 in such matches since her defeat to Mirra Andreeva in Brisbane earlier this year. Following her win in the opening set against Pegula, she improved that record to 17-1.

Starting the match with confidence, Noskova quickly took control, winning the first three games through powerful serves and aggressive play. She broke Pegula's serve to lead 2-0, followed by a lengthy service game that put her ahead 3-0. Although Pegula managed to level the score at 3-3, Noskova regained her composure, breaking again to secure the first set.

In the second set, Pegula elevated her game, moving from 3-3 to a 5-3 lead, ultimately winning the set and forcing a decisive third set.

Noskova responded with determination in the final set, breaking early to lead 2-0 and quickly extending her advantage to 3-0. Despite Pegula's efforts to come back and even saving a championship point late in the match, Noskova maintained her focus. She concluded the match with a forehand winner after Pegula's final shot went long, clinching the title in impressive fashion.

With this victory, Linda Noskova became the second Czech woman to win a title on the same day, following Marie Bouzkova's triumph over Emma Navarro in a grueling three-hour final at the Nottingham Open.

This event marks the fourth occasion where two Czech women have won WTA singles titles on the same day. Previous instances include:

October 1, 2016: Petra Kvitova (Wuhan) and Karolina Pliskova (Tashkent)

January 7, 2017: Katerina Siniakova (Shenzhen) and Pliskova (Brisbane)

September 18, 2022: Linda Fruhvirtova (Chennai) and Siniakova (Portoroz).
