Lauren Bell's Addition Boosts RCB Ahead of WPL 2024

RCB Strengthens Squad with Lauren Bell

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] - January 7: Anjum Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, expressed her belief that the inclusion of England's Lauren Bell will significantly benefit the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the upcoming 2024 season. She emphasized the crucial role fast bowlers will play this year.

Speaking during JioStar's segment 'TATA WPL: Know Your Team', Anjum highlighted Bell's impressive record, having participated in 36 T20 internationals and claiming 50 wickets at an average of 18.34, including a four-wicket haul. Her recent performances in the ICC Women’s World Cup held in India have equipped her with valuable experience, as she took six wickets in seven matches at an average of 45.66, primarily playing in Guwahati and Indore.

Anjum remarked, “Lauren Bell missed the previous WPL season, so it’s great to see her joining RCB this time. The insights she gained from the Women’s ODI World Cup in India will be invaluable. She is a formidable fast bowler who delivers with intensity. This season will require a strong focus on fast bowlers, not just spinners.”

RCB secured Lauren for Rs 90 lakhs, alongside other international talents like South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk for Rs 65 lakhs and Australian batter Georgia Voll for Rs 60 lakhs.

Anjum also praised the acquisition of Nadine, who had a standout performance in the 2025 World Cup, calling it a ‘bargain and a steal’. She stated, “Signing Nadine de Klerk for 65 lakh rupees is an incredible deal. RCB is fortunate to have her. Few teams showed interest during the auction, but her partnership with Richa Ghosh in the death overs will be a nightmare for bowlers. It promises to be thrilling.”

Nadine showcased her batting prowess during the 2025 World Cup, amassing 208 runs in seven innings at an average of 52.00 and a strike rate of 131.64. Her remarkable innings of 84* against India turned the match around, leading South Africa to victory from a precarious position, while also taking nine wickets with her right-arm medium pace at an average of 26.11.

The WPL is set to commence on January 9, with the defending champions Mumbai Indians facing off against RCB in the opening match.
