Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu Shine at Hylo Open with Victories
Lakshya Sen Claims Men's Singles Title
In Saarbrücken, Germany, on November 1, Lakshya Sen of India triumphed over Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, winning the men's singles title at the Hylo Open with a straight-game victory. Sen secured the match with scores of 21-17 and 21-10, marking his seventh title on the BWF World Tour and his second at the Hylo Open.
The Indian player showcased a remarkable performance, especially in the second game, where he took control after winning the first. He built a significant lead of 16-9, capitalizing on Christie's mistakes. Despite Christie's efforts to mount a comeback, Lakshya maintained the pressure, and after successfully challenging a line call, he earned 10 match points, ultimately sealing the win with a score of 21-10 in the second game.
PV Sindhu Secures Women's Singles Championship
Earlier in the tournament, PV Sindhu also made headlines by defeating Denmark's Line Kjaersfeldt in the women's singles final, with scores of 21-12 and 21-14. This victory marked Sindhu's second title of the season on the BWF World Tour.
The two-time Olympic medalist had an impressive run, finishing the tournament without losing a single game. This win came just a week after she was the runner-up at the French Open, where she faced world No. 1 An Se Young. Sindhu had previously claimed the Japan Open title in July.
In the final match, Sindhu started strong but faced some resistance from Kjaersfeldt, who kept the first game competitive at 5-5. However, Sindhu gradually took control, leading 11-8 at the break and closing the game at 21-12. The second game was more challenging, with Kjaersfeldt narrowing the gap to 7-6 after trailing initially. Nevertheless, Sindhu regained her momentum, leading 11-7 at the interval and eventually winning 21-14.
Sindhu's Dominant Tournament Performance
Throughout the tournament, Sindhu displayed her dominance, starting with a convincing 21-10, 21-10 victory over UAE's Prakriti Bharath. She followed this with a quick 21-9, 21-6 win against France's Rosy Oktavia Pancasari in just 26 minutes.
In the quarter-finals, she defeated Germany's Amalie Schulz with a score of 21-12, 21-10, and then overcame her compatriot, 19-year-old Anmol Kharb, in the semi-finals with scores of 21-13, 21-16. The Hylo Open victory not only added to her accolades but also served as a strong comeback after her recent loss in Paris.
