Lahore Qalandars Players Under Investigation for Security Breach
Security Protocol Breach by Lahore Qalandars Players
Lahore [Pakistan], March 29 – Players from the Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi and Sikandar Raza, are facing serious allegations from Punjab police regarding a breach of security protocols. Reports indicate that four unauthorized individuals gained access to the team's hotel room, as detailed by a report from a sports news outlet.
In a communication directed to PSL CEO Salman Naseer, a deputy police inspector claimed that Afridi and Raza disregarded security measures by 'forcefully escorting' the visitors to a player's room on Saturday night, where they remained for approximately three hours.
The letter further states that the Qalandars' Liaison Officer had reached out to the PCB's security and anti-corruption manager to seek permission for the four individuals, who were acquaintances of Raza, to enter his hotel room.
However, this request was denied, and the letter also mentions that Qalandars owner Sameen Rana subsequently sought approval from Salman Naseer, which was also rejected due to security concerns.
Despite these refusals, it is alleged that Afridi and Raza proceeded to bring the four visitors into the hotel room, ignoring the objections of the security personnel on duty.
Umar Farooq, the head of media for the Qalandars, confirmed that the team is aware of the situation involving the two players and is in discussions with the PSL regarding the matter.
'We are aware of an incident involving two Lahore Qalandars players and are in communication with the PSL over the matter,' stated Umar Farooq, as reported by the sports news outlet.
The police letter concludes by calling for a thorough review of the incident and emphasizes the need for measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
As for the PSL 2026, the Lahore Qalandars, under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi, are currently leading the tournament's points table after securing a victory against the Hyderabad Kingsmen on March 26, winning by 69 runs.
