Mbappe's Historic Achievement

In a remarkable display of skill, Kylian Mbappe, the captain of France, made history by matching Miroslav Klose's record for the second-most goal involvements in FIFA World Cup history since 1966, totaling 20 (16 goals and 4 assists).

The only player ahead of him is the legendary Lionel Messi, who boasts 26 goal involvements. Although Mbappe did not score during the match against Norway, he played a crucial role by assisting Ousmane Dembele twice, according to statistics from OptaJose.

France's Commanding Victory

Dembele's impressive hat-trick led France to a decisive 4-1 win over Norway in their Group I match for the FIFA World Cup 2026, held in Boston on Friday.

Both teams had already secured their spots in the knockout rounds after winning their first two matches. France entered the game needing only a draw to finish first in the group, but they decisively claimed the top position with this victory.

Match Highlights

The Ballon d'Or winner opened the scoring early in the 7th minute with a spectacular finish and quickly added another goal in the 20th minute with a stunning long-range shot. Norway managed to respond shortly after with a goal from Thelo Aasgaard in the 21st minute, momentarily narrowing the gap.

However, Dembele quickly restored France's lead, completing his hat-trick in the 32nd minute with a powerful shot, marking the first first-half hat-trick in a FIFA World Cup this century.

Norway's Missed Opportunities

Norway had a chance to get back into the game during the second half, but striker Jorgen Strand Larsen's missed penalty added to their woes in what turned out to be a challenging match.

In the dying moments, France's Desire Doue sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the 94th minute, scoring with a brilliant header from a well-placed cross by his PSG teammate Bradley Barcola.

Looking Ahead

Norway finished second in Group I and will face the Ivory Coast in the round of 32 in Dallas. Meanwhile, France will remain on the East Coast to take on a third-place qualifier.
