South Africa Sets Challenging Target in Guwahati Test

In the second Test match held in Guwahati, Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the leading wicket-taker, achieving figures of 4 for 115. Despite his efforts, South Africa managed to compile an impressive total of 489 runs in their first innings. The focus now shifts to the Indian batting lineup, which faces a daunting challenge to level the series.

During a post-match press conference, Kuldeep candidly discussed the differences between the pitches in Kolkata and Guwahati, highlighting the unique challenges each presents.

He remarked, "The wicket in Kolkata was quite different; this one felt like a highway, making it tough. That’s the essence of Test cricket—it’s not something you encounter every day..."

Kuldeep continued, "As a bowler, the goal is to dominate, but when the pitch is favorable, it’s crucial to adapt. We bowled well initially, but a partnership in one session set us back. Overall, the team put in a commendable effort, although the wicket offered minimal assistance for bowlers. Even fast bowlers found it challenging. However, this is Test cricket, and it should be enjoyed. You learn and grow from these experiences. I believe the next Test will provide a better pitch for bowlers, and I have no complaints about this one," he added.

In the series opener at Eden Gardens, India struggled significantly, being bowled out for low scores of 189 and 93, ultimately losing by 30 runs against South Africa's spin attack. In contrast, the pitch at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati has proven to be more favorable for batting, allowing South Africa to build a substantial first-innings score, which Kuldeep described as a "road."

On Day 1, South Africa was at 247 for 6, and they went on to add 252 runs on Day 2, losing just four wickets.

As the match unfolds, India will be eager for their batting unit to respond effectively on a pitch that has so far favored the batsmen, providing them with an opportunity to keep their hopes alive in the series.
