Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has raised concerns about the Indian cricket team's selection for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Critique of Squad Selection

Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has voiced his concerns regarding the selection of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming series against Afghanistan. He believes that the selectors have opted for a full-strength lineup following disappointing defeats against Ireland and England.

Srikkanth argues that the Afghanistan series would have been an excellent chance to experiment with younger players. Instead, the team resembles the one that faced England, a decision he perceives as one driven by fear and a sense of urgency.

India recently faced a 2-0 defeat in the series against Ireland, followed by a 4-0 loss to England in July.

The series against Afghanistan is set to commence on September 13, with the second T20I on September 15 and the final match on September 17, all taking place at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi.

Srikkanth commented on his YouTube channel, stating, "After the series losses in Ireland and England, the selectors have decided not to take a chance and picked a full-strength squad for Afghanistan. They are going all guns blazing, but this is a mistake. It’s against teams like Afghanistan that you should try out youngsters. Instead, you’ve picked a full-strength squad out of fear."

He further added, "It feels like a desperation move after the Ireland and England losses. But this squad is almost the same as the one they picked for England."

The Men's Selection Committee has unveiled a formidable Indian squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with Shreyas Iyer as the captain and Tilak Varma as his deputy.

The squad includes pace leader Jasprit Bumrah, alongside Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan.

Bumrah's inclusion is contingent on fitness clearance, along with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Harshit Rana.

Srikkanth also emphasized the significance of match fitness, questioning whether players can be deemed fully fit based solely on fitness assessments at the Bengaluru Centre of Excellence.

He insisted that players should demonstrate their fitness in actual competitive matches before being considered for selection in the national team.

He remarked, "These four have not proved match-fitness. So on what basis are they subject to fitness? Just because you prove your fitness at the Bengaluru CoE, are you fit? That’s how Harshit Rana went to England, and then what happened to him there? So match fitness is important."
