New Delhi, September 4: Kris Srikkanth, a former opener for India, has expressed strong support for the young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, suggesting that he has the potential to become a significant player in international cricket. Srikkanth believes that the 15-year-old can thrive in all three formats of the game and is destined to make a substantial impact.
Sooryavanshi has made headlines recently by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in the Duleep Trophy at just 15 years and 157 days, breaking a record that stood for 57 years.
After a quiet performance in the quarterfinal against North East Zone, he bounced back impressively in the semifinal against Central Zone, scoring 92 runs off 81 balls in the first innings and contributing 40 runs in the final innings, leading East Zone to a four-wicket victory and a spot in the finals.
On his YouTube channel, Srikkanth lauded Sooryavanshi's skills, calling him a potential cricket superstar who could be a valuable asset if properly guided. He emphasized the importance of encouragement for the young player, stating, “He’s playing outstandingly well. He must be encouraged and never be discouraged. If he’s moulded properly, he’ll be a superstar in the making.”
Srikkanth further highlighted Sooryavanshi's fearless batting style, noting his ability to handle bowlers in red-ball cricket with ease. “He played incredibly well. How can people even doubt whether this boy is capable of playing higher-level cricket? He can play at every level and is going to dominate world cricket shortly in all formats,” he remarked.
In addition to his Duleep Trophy success, Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs in three matches against Zimbabwe, earning the Player of the Series award as India achieved a clean sweep in the series.
Earlier this year, he made history as the youngest Indian to debut in T20 internationals. His debut followed an outstanding IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30, including a century and five fifties. He led the tournament in runs and set a record with 72 sixes.
The young cricketer also received multiple accolades post-season, including the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes awards. His remarkable performance in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 439 runs and was named Player of the Tournament, further underscores his vast potential.
