Kranti Gaud: A Rising Star in Women's Cricket Inspired by Family Sacrifices
Kranti Gaud's Journey from Humble Beginnings to T20 World Cup
As a key player in the Indian women's cricket team, pacer Kranti Gaud remains deeply connected to her roots and acknowledges the sacrifices made by her parents to support her aspirations. She aims to honor their faith by excelling in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Originating from a small village in Madhya Pradesh, Gaud reminisced about her mother selling her jewelry to purchase her first cricket kit.
“When your family stands by you, the opinions of outsiders become irrelevant. I am thankful for my family's unwavering support during challenging times, especially when finances were tight,” Gaud shared with a media outlet.
Now, she is determined to make her family proud through her performance for India.
“My mother’s sacrifice of selling her jewelry for my cricket kit was monumental. Their efforts instilled a sense of responsibility in me. I want to honor their sacrifices,” Gaud expressed, emphasizing her gratitude for the freedom to pursue her passion.
“At a time when many girls were restricted from stepping outside, my parents were supportive. They never made me feel guilty for chasing my dreams,” she added.
“Their belief in me provided the motivation to persist and pursue my goals. Knowing my family is behind me makes it easier to disregard external negativity,” she noted.
Gaud's rise in Indian cricket has also led to positive changes in her village, including the establishment of a cricket academy, encouraging parents to support their daughters in sports.
“Thanks to my performances in the ODI World Cup in 2025, a cricket academy has opened in Ghuwara, my hometown. Many young girls are now participating in cricket, which fills me with pride,” she stated.
“Parents are beginning to trust their daughters' potential in sports. I regularly interact with these aspiring players. The World Cup victory has significantly influenced this shift,” she remarked.
As Gaud prepares to face Bangladesh in a pivotal World Cup match in Manchester, India must secure a win to advance to the semifinals.
“I always strive to give my all. With every delivery, I aim to perform at my best. While we continuously work on new techniques, we prioritize our strengths—those deliveries that lead to wickets,” she concluded.
