As they prepare to face a formidable bowling lineup from MI, this lack of solid opening partnerships raises concerns. Chopra pointed out that KKR might need to settle on a consistent combination right from the start, especially considering the overseas players involved, such as Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. He anticipates Cameron Green will bat at No. 3, stating, "What you do today, you will have to do that for at least four or five matches. I hope they think about Sunil Narine, but they won’t be able to think about him because they have to play Finn Allen and make Ajinkya Rahane open."
Chopra further questioned how KKR would accommodate Narine if both Allen and Rahane open, emphasizing the importance of determining the right batting order for Green. He believes that No. 3 is the ideal position for him. The challenge extends beyond form; team balance is also crucial. The choice of whether to start with Allen or Seifert affects the allocation of overseas spots in the lineup. While Allen brings explosive energy, Seifert offers stability behind the stumps. Alternatively, KKR could opt for an Indian wicketkeeper like Angkrish Raghuvanshi, which would provide greater flexibility in selecting overseas players.
Despite Narine's past performances making him a strong candidate for the top order, integrating him with Rahane and an international opener complicates the selection process. Establishing a strong foundation for IPL 2026 is vital, especially after a disappointing previous season.
