Kolkata Knight Riders Face Early Challenges in IPL 2026
KKR's Struggles in the Opening Matches
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have encountered a rocky start in the IPL 2026 season, suffering defeats in their first two matches against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Ajinkya Rahane's performance has come under scrutiny, particularly during the game against SRH, where he managed only 8 runs off 10 balls while chasing a daunting target of 226 runs. With KKR's batting lineup appearing fragile against SRH, franchise icon and former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has proposed significant changes, including moving Sunil Narine to the opening position.
On his YouTube channel, Uthappa suggested that Narine's batting skills are being underutilized in the lower order and that he should open alongside Finn Allen to create a left-right combination. “One potential solution is to elevate Sunil Narine in the batting order, considering his current form. I believe we shouldn't waste his talents lower down,” Uthappa stated.
He also recommended a batting order featuring Angkrish Raghuvanshi at number three, followed by Rahane at number four, Manish Pandey at five, and Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, and Anukul Roy filling the sixth, seventh, and eighth spots.
'Angkrish Raghuvanshi: A Bright Spot'
Uthappa pointed out that despite KKR's difficulties in their initial matches, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has emerged as a bright spot in the lineup. The 22-year-old has scored two half-centuries in the first two games, batting at different positions—number four against MI and number three against SRH. “KKR finds itself in a challenging situation right now. The bowling was exposed in the first match, and the batting faltered in the second. The two run-outs certainly didn't aid KKR's chase,” Uthappa remarked. He emphasized that Raghuvanshi's performance has been commendable, suggesting that he could excel if given the opportunity to open or bat at number three.
