KKR's First Win of IPL 2026

Following their inaugural win in the IPL 2026 season, Kolkata Knight Riders' captain, Ajinkya Rahane, expressed his relief and humor. After enduring a tough start to the season, where he was frequently interviewed post-match due to losses, Rahane finally enjoyed a moment of joy on April 19. He humorously noted, 'First of all, really happy to be here. I got five extra minutes after the game,' during his post-match address.

Rahane quickly shifted the focus to standout performances from his teammates, particularly Varun Chakravarthy, who claimed three wickets for just 14 runs, and Rinku Singh, who scored a remarkable 53 runs to secure the victory. Anukul Roy also received praise for his composure during the match.

Rahane shared his happiness for Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakravarthy, highlighting their contributions. He noted, 'The way he bowled in the middle, he was going through a tough phase but he has bowled well in the last three games. Rinku, again, going through a tough phase mentally. Really happy to see him finish the game.'

Chasing a target of 156 runs, KKR faced challenges at critical moments. Rahane emphasized the importance of rotating the strike over focusing solely on high strike rates. 'There's lots to learn from every game. Batting powerplay has not been good for us in the last three games. Sometimes I feel strike-rate is overrated. On this kind of wicket, you have to focus on singles and doubles, it is not about hitting big sixes,' he explained.

Looking ahead, Rahane acknowledged the need for reflection and improvement, stating, 'Thankfully, we will get those 5 days now. We need to reflect and learn from our mistakes. As a team we have to come together probably, be honest with each other and have clear communication. The atmosphere in the dressing room is excellent.'

Rahane Commends Kartik Tyagi

Ajinkya Rahane also lauded Kartik Tyagi for his impressive bowling performance, where he took 3 wickets for 22 runs in four overs, playing a vital role in limiting the Rajasthan Royals to 155 runs. 'Fantastic, he's been really good from the practice games which we played. Since then, he's been really clear about his ability, what he wants to do in the middle,' Rahane remarked.

He praised Tyagi's confidence and skill in handling various match situations, particularly during the death overs. 'So, really happy to see Kartik Tyagi gaining that confidence as a young fast bowler. And the pace which he's bowling has been fantastic,' Rahane added.

Kolkata Knight Riders are set to face Lucknow Super Giants in their next match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 26.
