Madan Lal Endorses KL Rahul's New Role

In Noida, Uttar Pradesh, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal expressed his support for KL Rahul's appointment as vice-captain, describing it as a "wise and commendable choice."


Lal emphasized Rahul's consistent performance across all formats, his experience, and his comprehensive understanding of cricket as significant factors for his elevation to a leadership position.


Rahul steps in as the vice-captain for the Test team, taking over from Rishabh Pant, as the squad was revealed for the upcoming one-off Test and a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.


"I believe this is the right move; it’s a solid decision because he is a thoughtful player with impressive performances in T20s, ODIs, and Tests. Promoting a player who is excelling is crucial, and we need someone like him who is both experienced and a proven performer. He has a deep understanding of the game," Madan Lal stated.


Throughout his Test career, KL Rahul has participated in 67 matches, amassing 4,053 runs with an average of 35.86. His record includes 11 centuries and 20 half-centuries, with a top score of 199.


The one-off Test is scheduled to commence on June 6, followed by the ODI series starting on June 14 in Dharamshala. The second ODI will take place on June 17 in Lucknow, concluding with the final match on June 20 in Chennai.


The squad announcement was made by the Men's Selection Committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, alongside members Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, R. P. Singh, and Pragyan Ojha, with BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia present.


India's Test squad against Afghanistan includes: Shubman Gill (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul (vice-captain), Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, and Dhruv Jurel.
