Galle [Sri Lanka], August 17: Indian cricketer KL Rahul expressed his joy over state-mate Devdutt Padikkal achieving his first Test century. Rahul reflected on their friendship that began during their U19 cricket days and expressed confidence in Padikkal's potential for more consistent performances for the Indian team.

Padikkal, stepping in at number three due to Sai Sudharsan's injury, made a significant impact with a well-crafted 167 runs off 230 balls against Sri Lanka in Galle. His ability to handle spin was a standout aspect of his innings.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Padikkal remarked, "Coming from the same state, I've watched Dev progress through the U19 ranks, scoring numerous runs for Karnataka and eventually making his way into Indian cricket."

He added, "Over the past few years, he has patiently awaited his chance, diligently working on his skills in the nets. We've had many discussions about improving his game and what to expect in Sri Lanka and future Test matches."

Padikkal also noted his previous successes, including a century in a warm-up match, stating, "He is someone who enjoys batting and scoring big runs, so I'm thrilled he achieved his first hundred."

KL Rahul, who scored his first international century in just his second Test against Australia, emphasized how significant it is for Padikkal to secure his maiden ton early in his career. He stated, "Getting that first century out of the way allows you to enjoy your cricket and elevate your game."
