Narainpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 27: In an exhilarating final at the Ramakrishna Ashrama Ground 1, Kerala staged a remarkable comeback to secure the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship title, defeating Mizoram 4-2.


After trailing 0-2 at halftime, Sheril Shaji Thomas emerged as the hero for Kerala, netting two crucial goals, including a penalty in stoppage time. His performance not only led his team to victory but also earned him the title of the tournament's top scorer with 13 goals, as reported by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).


The comeback was ignited by Ajith KR, who scored Kerala's first goal in the 55th minute. Substitute Shamil EK then showcased his skills by scoring the decisive goal in the 83rd minute. Mizoram initially took control of the match, with Mesak C Lalrinngheta scoring a stunning long-range goal in the 11th minute and assisting Vanlairamnghaka for their second goal in the 34th minute.


Mizoram's dominance in the first half was evident as they executed their attacking strategy effectively. Lalrinngheta's opening goal came from a well-placed shot that caught Kerala goalkeeper Fayad Firoz off guard.
