Recognition for a Cricketing Star

In a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presented accolades to Indian cricketer Sanju Samson on March 16. This honor was in recognition of Samson's significant role in India's victorious T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

The Governor shared the moment on social media, detailing how he draped a shawl around Samson and gifted him a kasavu mundu, an idol of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, along with Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography, 'Playing It My Way.'

Sanju Samson's performance was pivotal in securing India's win, earning him the title of Player of the Tournament. He scored a remarkable 321 runs across five matches, averaging 80.25 with an impressive strike rate of 199.37, including 27 fours and 24 sixes, making him the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Despite a slow start in his initial matches, Samson found his rhythm with an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in a crucial Super Eight match, followed by scores of 89 against England in the semi-finals and another 89 in the final against New Zealand.

India's triumph over New Zealand by 96 runs on March 8 marked a historic achievement, as they became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil and the first to secure consecutive titles, adding to their previous wins in 2007 and 2024.
