Kashi Rudras Secure Crucial Victory

In a pivotal match held on September 1 at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium, the Kashi Rudras, the reigning champions, showcased an impressive performance by defeating the Meerut Mavericks by 56 runs in Match 29 of the UPT20 League 2026.

This historic venue, known for hosting 40 international matches, witnessed a decisive outcome that solidified the playoff lineup for the season. The Meerut Mavericks remain at the top of the standings with 15 points, while the Lucknow Falcons follow closely in second place with 13 points, as reported by the UPT20 League.

Completing the top four are the Kashi Rudras and Noida Kings, both finishing with 10 points. Unfortunately, the Gaur Gorakhpur Lions and Kanpur Superstars have been eliminated from the tournament.

Understanding the necessity of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, Kashi Rudras captain Karan Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. His decision was quickly validated as the opening pair forged a solid 75-run partnership off 51 balls. Vaibhav Jaiswal contributed a quick 33 runs from 24 balls, while Karan Sharma anchored the innings with a commendable 57 runs off 40 balls, establishing a strong foundation.

Wicketkeeper Upendra Yadav then took control, delivering a powerful late-game performance. He scored an unbeaten 57 runs off just 29 balls, featuring four boundaries and five towering sixes. His explosive finish propelled the Kashi Rudras to a formidable total of 175/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 176, the Meerut Mavericks faced immediate challenges, losing star opener Swastik Chikara for a duck on just his fourth ball, courtesy of Kartik Yadav, who set the tone for the innings.

Kartik's exceptional bowling performance saw him claim 3 wickets for just 12 runs in four overs, crippling the Meerut top order and leaving them struggling at 70/5 after 13 overs. His outstanding display earned him the Player of the Match title.

Divyansh Rajput tried to stabilize the innings, scoring a determined 39 runs off 31 balls. However, his innings ended in a bizarre manner when he was dismissed hit-wicket by Rishabh Rajput on the fifth ball of the 16th over. Rishabh followed up by dismissing Yash Garg on the very next delivery, leaving Meerut needing 70 runs from 24 balls with only three wickets remaining.

The excitement peaked on the first ball of the 17th over when Impact Player Sangam Singh made an immediate impact, completing a remarkable team hat-trick over two overs. Ultimately, the Meerut Mavericks were bowled out for 119 runs in 19.2 overs.

Rishabh Rajput concluded with impressive figures of 3/13, while Atal Bihari Vipin Rai contributed with two wickets, securing a significant 56-run victory for the Rudras.

This win marks back-to-back victories for the Kashi Rudras, providing them with significant momentum as they head into the knockout stages, while the Meerut Mavericks will need to regroup after facing consecutive losses.

With the league stage now complete, the tournament is set to enter its crucial playoff phase. Due to ongoing rain and wet conditions in Kanpur, all playoff matches have been relocated to the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
