Preparations Underway for IPL 2026 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], March 13: Members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) recently met with an expert committee appointed by the state government to present a comprehensive overview of the upgrades and safety protocols at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in anticipation of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

After a period of uncertainty following a tragic incident on June 4, 2025, the state government has approved the hosting of IPL matches at this venue.

The IPL 2026 season is set to commence on March 28, featuring a match between the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and the three-time champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

RCB will also host another home game against Chennai Super Kings on April 5, totaling five home matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, with two additional games scheduled at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur.

Vinay Mruthyunjaya, the official spokesperson for KSCA, stated, "Today, on March 13, 2026, the Expert Committee convened with KSCA officials and representatives from RCB at the Karnataka State Cricket Association. During this meeting, KSCA provided a thorough presentation regarding the infrastructural enhancements and safety measures implemented at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in accordance with the Expert Committee's Phase-I compliance framework recommendations. RCB representatives also shared their operational strategies to ensure the smooth execution of the upcoming IPL matches. The discussions were productive, and all parties reaffirmed their dedication to conducting the matches safely and efficiently."

Extensive renovations are currently underway at the stadium, which include the addition of several new entry points, the expansion of existing gates, and improvements to surrounding infrastructure.

These upgrades feature new walkways, a designated holding area adjacent to the former National Cricket Academy, and specific routes for emergency services.

Renovations commenced in mid-December following the KSCA elections, which saw former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad take on the role of president. KSCA officials have been in close collaboration with state authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are adhered to.
