Kagiso Rabada Leads South Africa to Historic WTC Victory Over Australia
Rabada's Stellar Performance Secures WTC Title
In a remarkable display at Lord's, Kagiso Rabada played a crucial role in South Africa's historic five-wicket triumph against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. This victory marks South Africa's first WTC title, with Rabada taking nine wickets overall—5 for 51 in the first innings and 4 for 59 in the second—effectively dismantling the Australian batting lineup.
This win also signifies a significant achievement for the Proteas, as it ends a lengthy wait for an ICC title, their first since the ICC KnockOut Trophy in 1998.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Rabada shared his pride in the team's accomplishment, stating, “Words can’t express how I feel right now. I’m incredibly happy. We performed well throughout the season and earned this moment.”
He dismissed claims that their success was due to weaker opponents, asserting, “Australia is a formidable team, and we had to bring our best to overcome them.”
Rabada's relentless pace, swing, and precision consistently troubled the Australian batsmen. His five-wicket haul in the first innings set the tone, while his four wickets in the second innings ensured South Africa's dominance.
Expressing gratitude to the fans, he remarked, “The last four days felt like a home game. Thank you for your support; it means a lot to us.”
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins' successful captaincy, which included retaining the Ashes and winning the WTC mace and the 50-over World Cup against India, has now faced a setback.
