Klopp's First Triumph with Germany

Munich [Germany], October 2: Jurgen Klopp achieved his inaugural win as the head coach of Germany, leading the team to a 2-0 victory against Serbia in their UEFA Nations League Round 3 match held at the Allianz Arena.

This win marked the end of Klopp's winless streak in his first three matches, boosting Germany's chances of staying in League A, while Serbia now faces a tough challenge to avoid relegation, as reported by UEFA Nations League.

In a bid to turn things around after a loss to Greece, Klopp made significant changes to the lineup. Germany started the match with vigor, creating numerous scoring opportunities.

Early on, Aleksandar Pavlovic nearly scored, curling a shot just wide, while Nick Woltemade also posed a threat. Serge Gnabry, however, missed a chance after being set up by Florian Wirtz.

Germany maintained control of the game, with debutant Derry Scherhant narrowly missing the target and Djordje Petrovic making a crucial save against Gnabry.

Wirtz came close to scoring when he headed a cross from Gnabry, but Petrovic was there to stop it.

Just before halftime, Germany broke the deadlock. Wirtz showcased his skills in the penalty area, hitting the post, but Tom Bischof reacted quickly to score his first international goal from the rebound.

After the break, Germany continued to press, although they squandered several chances.

Scherhant hit the side netting three times, and Said El Mala, who made his debut, also sought to make an impact.

Woltemade missed a golden opportunity from close range, sending the ball over the bar after a cross from Philipp Treu.

Germany finally extended their lead in the 60th minute when Maximilian Mittelstadt set up Wirtz, who skillfully turned past Srdjan Babic and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Serbia struggled to mount a response as Germany controlled the game, limiting the visitors to very few chances.

This victory was crucial for Klopp, who was at risk of becoming the first Germany manager to start without a win in his first three matches.

Germany, currently ranked 12th in the FIFA rankings, will next take on Greece on Sunday as they aim to secure their position in Nations League League A.

Serbia, ranked 40th, has now faced six defeats in seven matches in 2026, putting their top-tier status in jeopardy.
