Philippe Backs Babar Azam to Regain Form

Sydney, Australia - December 19: Josh Philippe, a batter for Australia and his Big Bash League (BBL) teammate, has expressed confidence in Pakistan's Babar Azam rediscovering his form ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Recently, Babar has faced challenges, managing only two half-centuries in T20 internationals since the last T20 World Cup held in the USA and the West Indies last year. This year, he has accumulated just 206 runs across eight innings, averaging 34.33, with a strike rate of 114.44.

His recent struggles have resulted in a significant drop in the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings, where he now sits at 31st, a concerning position for the seasoned player with the T20 World Cup approaching in less than two months.

Currently in Australia preparing for the BBL with the Sydney Sixers, Babar's performance has been underwhelming, scoring only two and nine in his first two matches.

However, Philippe believes it is just a matter of time before Babar hits his stride. "He is a world-class player," Philippe remarked, as reported by ICC.

He added, "Adjusting to the bouncy pitches in Australia can be tough, but after a few games and practice sessions, I’m confident he will be back to his best."

Philippe, who is also aiming to catch the attention of national selectors for a spot in Australia's T20 World Cup squad, has shown promising form himself. He performed well in recent white-ball matches against India and has made a solid start in the BBL, scoring a team-high 46 runs in his latest game against Adelaide.

Batting at number three, Philippe is willing to adapt his role to allow Babar to focus on finding his rhythm as an opener. "I’m open to playing any role needed," he stated.

He expressed eagerness to build a strong partnership with Babar, stating, "I look forward to learning from him on the field. He’s a great guy, and we’re enjoying his presence in the team."
