Jos Buttler Remains Hopeful for England Selection Despite T20 World Cup Struggles
Buttler's Aspirations for Upcoming Series
On March 18, in London, veteran England cricketer Jos Buttler shared his hopes of being included in the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against India in July. However, he also recognized the uncertainty surrounding his selection following a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026.
During the T20 World Cup, Buttler managed to score just 87 runs across eight innings, contributing to England's exit from the tournament after a semifinal loss to India, who went on to win the championship.
In a recent episode of his podcast, 'For the Love of Cricket,' Buttler expressed his doubts about being chosen for the T20I and ODI matches against India, while still holding onto hope despite his lackluster World Cup performance.
He stated, "I hope so. I don’t know. Obviously, I had a poor tournament, which is disappointing, but I’ve been playing some of the best cricket of my career in recent years, so hopefully I can get back to playing my best."
Buttler emphasized his desire to continue representing England, yet acknowledged that the decision is beyond his control. He remarked, "I certainly have ambitions to continue playing for England, but no longer being a captain, I’m not a selector, so whatever will be, will be. We will see."
Reflecting on his struggles during the T20 World Cup, Buttler admitted he is uncertain about what went wrong, noting that despite his dedication and effort, he couldn't find his rhythm. He concluded, "There are elements to what went wrong that I don’t really know exactly. For all your best intentions and hard work, it just didn’t work, and sometimes that’s okay. It wasn’t for a lack of effort; it just didn’t quite happen."
