Jofra Archer Makes IPL History with Remarkable Performance
Historic Performance in IPL Eliminator
During the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) eliminator, Jofra Archer made headlines as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 47 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on May 27. Archer played a pivotal role in this victory, claiming three wickets and taking three catches, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dazzled with an impressive 29-ball 97. Archer's exceptional bowling in the powerplay significantly hampered SRH's chase, as he dismissed their top three batsmen: Abhishek Sharma (0 off 2), Ishan Kishan (33 off 11), and Travis Head (17 off 8). He also contributed to the dismissals of Smaran Ravichandran, Pat Cummins, and Eshan Malinga with his catches.
Unprecedented Achievement by Archer
Jofra Archer has set a new record as the first player to take three wickets and three catches in a single playoff match. Previously, five players had managed to take three wickets and two catches in a playoff match. Below is a list of players who have achieved similar feats:

In addition, Archer is in the running for the purple cap this season, having taken 24 wickets. This marks the second time in his IPL career that he has surpassed the 20-wicket mark, both times while representing the Royals. He is the first pacer from RR to achieve multiple seasons with over 20 wickets, a feat matched only by Yuzvendra Chahal. Archer's seven first-over wickets in the 2026 IPL are tied for the second-most in history, just behind Trent Boult's record of eight in 2020. He will have another opportunity to increase his tally when RR faces the Gujarat Titans in the second qualifier on May 29, with the winner set to meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final on May 31 in Ahmedabad.
