Jemimah Rodrigues Embraces Versatility Ahead of T20 World Cup
Jemimah Rodrigues Ready to Adapt in Batting Order
Taunton [UK], June 1: Jemimah Rodrigues, a prominent player in the Indian women's cricket team, has expressed her readiness to bat in any position within the lineup. She emphasized that as long as she understands her role clearly, she can deliver strong performances. With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaching, the Indian team is using the current series against England as an opportunity to refine their playing eleven.
Rodrigues has been central to India's strategic adaptability. Earlier this year, she played a crucial role at No. 3 against formidable teams like Australia and South Africa. However, during the first two T20Is against England, she has willingly shifted to batting at No. 4 and No. 5. Rather than seeing this change as a setback, Rodrigues considers it a vital part of the team's evolution.
“I feel comfortable in any batting position. Ultimately, clarity is key for me. When I understand my role, I can perform effectively. We have several games ahead to experiment and find the best combination for the team,” Rodrigues stated, as reported by a sports media outlet.
By adjusting Rodrigues' position, the team has allowed wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia more chances to bat. Bhatia, who is returning to the national squad after nearly two years due to injury, brings added strength to the batting order.
Rodrigues commended Bhatia for her impressive comeback, noting that her performance in her first match back, where she scored 54 runs, showcased the resilience needed to succeed after a long absence.
“Yastika has been away due to her injury, so this is her first opportunity to play again. Having her back is a significant advantage for us. Her performance in the first game was remarkable, demonstrating her character and determination,” Rodrigues remarked.
Rodrigues expressed her satisfaction with Bhatia's progress and the team's ongoing commitment to enhancing their batting strength. She highlighted the team's positive approach towards continuous improvement and deepening their batting lineup.
“I’m thrilled with her progress and pleased that we are focused on strengthening our batting. This is the mindset we are adopting moving forward,” Rodrigues added.
In the ongoing series, India Women secured a victory against England by 38 runs in the first match but faced a 26-run defeat in the second. The decisive match will take place on Tuesday in Taunton.
