Jemimah Rodrigues Aims to Break Delhi Capitals' 'Chokers' Curse in WPL
New Leadership for Delhi Capitals
In a recent announcement, Jemimah Rodrigues has been appointed as the new captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. She takes over from Meg Lanning, who has led the team to three consecutive finals without securing a championship.
Rodrigues expressed her determination to shed the 'chokers' label that has plagued the franchise, which has consistently reached the finals but has yet to claim a trophy. During a media interaction, she highlighted the team's strong performance over the past three seasons, asserting that they have been the most consistent side in the league.
Drawing inspiration from the Indian women's cricket team, which overcame its own 'chokers' reputation by winning the 2025 ODI Women’s World Cup, Jemimah believes that persistence and hard work will eventually lead to success for DC. She stated, "Time changes outcomes, and we are confident that our moment will come."
Rodrigues also reflected on her experience playing under Lanning, praising her leadership skills and the valuable lessons she learned about captaincy. She expressed gratitude for Lanning's mentorship, stating, "Meg has been one of the greatest captains I’ve ever played under, and I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned this season."
