Jasprit Bumrah's Fitness Raises Concerns Ahead of IPL 2026
Bumrah's Return to BCCI's Centre of Excellence
As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 approaches, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has arrived at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, prompting speculation regarding his fitness. His absence from the Mumbai Indians' training camp at Wankhede Stadium has raised eyebrows, especially since the rest of the team has already commenced preparations. It remains uncertain whether Bumrah is addressing a specific injury or simply undergoing a routine medical assessment following a rigorous international schedule.
Bumrah's recent contributions, particularly during India's victorious T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, have been remarkable. He played a pivotal role in the final held in Ahmedabad, achieving his career-best bowling figures and significantly contributing to India's historic third title win in the tournament.
His fitness is vital for the Mumbai Indians as they aim for a sixth IPL championship, and fans are keenly awaiting updates on his condition. His visit to the BCCI facility indicates a careful approach to ensure he is match-ready, especially considering the high stakes of the upcoming season.
Players who participated in the T20 World Cup final have been granted an extended break before joining the preseason training, as confirmed by Mumbai Indians' head coach Mahela Jayawardene. He stated, "Every year, we aim to get there (win the IPL trophy). But I know it's a long season. So pre-season will start the way we usually start, working hard, getting new boys into the setup. And with our (T20) World Cup guys, we've given them a bit of an extended break so that they will join us next weekend."
Jayawardene also mentioned that overseas players would return home briefly before rejoining the team for a week of training ahead of the first match.
Since his debut in 2013, Bumrah has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians, contributing significantly to their five IPL titles with his speed and precision. Even in the 2025 season, where the batting lineup struggled, Bumrah's consistent performances shone through, as he took 18 wickets in 12 matches, boasting an impressive economy rate of 6.67.
