Bumrah Breaks Kapil Dev's Record

London [UK], July 11: Jasprit Bumrah, recognized as one of the world's finest bowlers, surpassed the legendary Kapil Dev's record for the most five-wicket hauls in away Tests for India during the intense heat of the third Test against England at Lord's.

After missing the previous match, Bumrah returned to the iconic venue with remarkable form, leaving England's skilled batsmen in disbelief with his accurate bowling. He achieved his first five-wicket haul at Lord's, bringing his total to 13 in away Tests, accomplished over 35 matches.

With this achievement, Bumrah eclipsed Kapil's previous record of 12 five-wicket hauls in 66 away Tests, positioning himself at the top. Former spinner Anil Kumble now holds the third spot with 10 five-wicket hauls in 69 away Tests.

In his 47-Test career, Bumrah has claimed 215 wickets at an impressive average of 19.49, with his best figures being 6/27 and a total of 15 five-wicket hauls. Across all formats, he has played 206 matches and surpassed the 450-wicket milestone, currently standing at 453 wickets with an average of 20.48 and best figures of 6/19.

In a memorable performance, the 31-year-old equaled Wasim Akram's record for the most five-wicket hauls by an Asian in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia), both having achieved 11.

Bumrah began his wicket-taking spree on the first day by clean bowling Harry Brook. On the second day, he continued to showcase his exceptional form.

He ended England's Test captain Ben Stokes' innings at 44 with a brilliant delivery that shattered the stumps. Joe Root, who had just reached his record-breaking Test century, was dismissed shortly after for 104 runs off 199 balls.

Following a close appeal for a catch behind against Chris Woakes, the review confirmed a faint edge, leading to Woakes' dismissal for a golden duck.

Bumrah concluded his outstanding performance by taking the wicket of Jofra Archer. After England's innings ended at 397, Bumrah celebrated his achievement with figures of 5/74 in 27 overs, receiving applause from the crowd.
