Jason Gillespie Advocates for Peter Siddle's Inclusion in T20 World Cup Squad
Gillespie Supports Siddle for T20 World Cup
In a recent statement, Australian cricket icon Jason Gillespie expressed that adding former fast bowler Peter Siddle to the squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup could be a wise decision, especially if any of the current seamers face injury issues before the tournament.
Gillespie emphasized that T20 cricket often requires quick thinking and adaptability, which makes Siddle a strong candidate under the current circumstances.
This comment followed a tweet from a journalist who praised Siddle, stating, 'Peter Siddle is a very good advertisement for getting off the grog and cycling everywhere.'
At 41 years old, Siddle is currently excelling in the Big Bash League (BBL), where he plays for the Melbourne Stars. He leads the league with 10 wickets at an impressive average of 13.60 over five matches, with his best performance being 3/23.
Gillespie remarked in a post on X, 'It would not be the worst option should one of the seamers get injured before the T20 WC. If there is a format that short-term (here and now) thinking is okay, it’s T20.'
Siddle, who retired from international cricket in 2019, has an impressive record of 221 wickets from 67 Test matches, including eight five-wicket hauls. He is particularly remembered for achieving a hat-trick on his birthday against England at the Gabba in 2010.
On his 26th birthday, he became the ninth Australian to secure a Test hat-trick and played a crucial role in Australia's 5-0 Ashes series triumph over England in 2013-14.
In addition to his Test career, Siddle has also played 20 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), taking 17 wickets at an average of 43.70, and participated in two Twenty20 Internationals, where he claimed 3 wickets.
