Jannik Sinner Equals Djokovic's Record with 31 Consecutive ATP Masters Wins
Sinner Matches Djokovic's Historic Streak
Rome [Italy], May 12: Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner has equaled the remarkable record of 31 consecutive ATP Masters 1000 victories set by Serbian legend Novak Djokovic. He achieved this milestone by defeating qualifier Andrea Pellegrino with a score of 6-2, 6-3 at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome on Tuesday, as reported by a sports news outlet.
As the current world No. 1, Sinner completed the match in just 88 minutes at Campo Centrale, advancing to the quarterfinals where he will compete against either Andrey Rublev or Nikoloz Basilashvili on Wednesday.
Pellegrino, ranked 155th globally and facing a top-10 player for the first time, had a chance to break Sinner's serve at 3-2 in the second set. However, Sinner elevated his game, winning four consecutive games and securing the match on his first match point.
This impressive streak for Sinner began at last year's Paris Masters. Throughout this period, he has clinched five consecutive Masters 1000 titles and has only lost two sets in his last 62 matches at this level.
Additionally, Sinner boasts an impressive 57-0 record against players ranked outside the top 50 since his loss to Dusan Lajovic in Cincinnati in 2023, along with an 18-0 record against fellow Italian players on tour.
If he wins his next match, Sinner will hold the record for the longest winning streak in ATP Masters 1000 history.
Earlier this month, Sinner triumphed over Germany's Alexander Zverev in straight sets to claim the Madrid Open title, making history as the first player to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles. He won that match 6-1, 6-2 at Manolo Santana Stadium.
Following his victory, Sinner reflected on his achievement, emphasizing the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices that have contributed to his success. He acknowledged that while these accomplishments are significant, he understands that performance levels can fluctuate in sports.
“There’s a lot of effort behind this. I dedicate myself daily, and while these results are meaningful, I know that there will be ups and downs,” Sinner stated, as quoted by the ATP website.
He expressed pride in maintaining his confidence and discipline, crediting his team's unwavering support. “I’m grateful for my belief in myself and the commitment I bring to every practice. Having the right team is crucial, and I’m thrilled for both myself and my team, as this success is significant for all of us,” Sinner added.
