Jannik Sinner Dominates Jiri Lehecka to Advance in French Open
Sinner's Impressive Performance
Paris [France], May 31: Jannik Sinner delivered an outstanding performance against Jiri Lehecka, securing his spot in the fourth round of the ongoing French Open.
The top-seeded Italian showcased his skills in the third round, achieving a commanding 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lehecka in just 94 minutes, maintaining his exceptional form. Sinner's serve was particularly effective, with only nine points dropped.
“I played exceptionally well, especially for the first two and a half sets. He served bravely and executed some good serve-and-volley plays. I’m thrilled with this win, especially since it’s my coach Simone Vagnozzi’s birthday. I usually struggle on his birthday, so this victory is for him,” Sinner remarked, as reported by ATP.
Despite the overcast conditions on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Sinner dominated the match with precise shot-making from the baseline. He effectively countered Lehecka's serves, taking full control of the match. Sinner recorded 30 winners while committing only nine unforced errors against the world number 34.
The world number one will now face the aggressive Andrey Rublev, whom he leads 6-3 in their ATP Head2Head encounters. Rublev advanced to the fourth round after receiving a walkover when home favorite Arthur Fils withdrew due to injury.
Sinner is on track to become the first Italian man to win the singles title in the Open Era since Adriano Panatta, who achieved this in 1976. In the previous round, Sinner ended Richard Gasquet's career with a decisive victory.
Gasquet, in his 22nd appearance at the clay-court major in Paris, concluded his journey with a 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 loss in a match that lasted one hour and 58 minutes.
