Jannik Sinner Celebrates Meaningful Wimbledon Title Defense
Sinner Reflects on His Wimbledon Triumph
London [UK], July 13: Jannik Sinner, currently ranked World No. 1, has hailed his recent victory at Wimbledon as one of the most significant milestones in his career. This achievement comes after a challenging period following his earlier disappointment at the French Open, as reported by ATP.
During the post-match press conference after his win against Alexander Zverev in the men's singles final, Sinner emphasized the unique significance of each Grand Slam event.
“Every Grand Slam tells a different story, with its own atmosphere and emotions leading up to it. This particular win holds great importance for me, especially after the tough experience in Paris. Last year was also quite challenging,” Sinner remarked, as noted by ATP.
The Italian player acknowledged the extensive preparation he and his team undertook for the grass-court tournament.
“We dedicated numerous long days in Monaco to training. I sacrificed a lot of my time to reach this point. Achieving this victory means a great deal to me. Today was truly remarkable,” he added.
Sinner also commended Zverev, the runner-up, for his ongoing development, stating that it motivates him to elevate his own game.
“I have immense respect for Sascha; he’s making incredible strides. His game continues to evolve, which is beneficial as it pushes me to reach my limits,” he expressed.
Additionally, Sinner discussed the strength of the men's tennis scene, expressing his desire for rival Carlos Alcaraz to return while acknowledging the enduring presence of Novak Djokovic and the rise of younger talents.
“We hope Carlos makes a comeback because tennis needs him. With Novak still competing and the influx of young players, it’s an exciting time. However, consistent hard work is essential to achieve moments like this,” Sinner stated, as quoted by ATP.
In the final match, Sinner faced only one break point over four sets, showcasing an impressive serving performance reminiscent of his semi-final against seven-time champion Djokovic. When asked about maintaining focus during the nearly four-hour match, he replied:
“It’s all about staying present. If you lose your serve once, the set is likely lost, especially against someone like Sascha. Competing against the best requires careful management of your service games. I’ve seen improvement throughout the tournament. From my initial matches to how I concluded the tournament, my performance has consistently progressed.”
“This improvement was crucial for me. I aimed for personal growth, and we achieved that. Mentally, it’s important to switch gears to perform well. I’m very pleased with how I managed the situation this year. Now, it’s time to celebrate,” Sinner concluded.
