Glasgow [Scotland], July 30: Jaismine Lamboria, the reigning world champion in the women's boxing 57kg division, has guaranteed India another medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She triumphed over England's Elise Glynn with a score of 4-1 in the quarterfinals held on Wednesday night, securing her spot in the semifinals.

The 24-year-old athlete from Haryana showcased her skills in a tightly contested match, finishing strong in the final round to sway the judges in her favor, thus ensuring at least a bronze medal. With all semifinal losers receiving bronze, this marks Lamboria's second consecutive medal at the Commonwealth Games, following her bronze win at Birmingham 2022, as reported by ESPN.

The bout was closely contested throughout the three rounds, with both competitors exchanging punches evenly. Glynn tried to take control with aggressive body shots in the final moments, but Lamboria countered effectively with precise movements and timely combinations. She clinched the victory with a remarkable performance in the last round, convincing four out of five judges to award her the win by a 4-1 split decision.

As the defending world champion, Lamboria continues her pursuit of gold at the Commonwealth Games, with her semifinal match scheduled for July 31.

Her victory also makes her the sixth Indian boxer to secure a medal for the country on Day 7 in Glasgow.

Earlier, other Indian boxers including Sakshi Choudhary (women's 51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women's 70kg), Sachin Siwach (men's 60kg), Ankush Yadav (men's 80kg), and Narender Berwal (men's 90+kg) advanced to the semifinals, ensuring at least bronze medals for themselves.

India's boxing team has significantly contributed to the nation's medal tally at the Games, with nine medals now assured from this sport. Jadumani Singh, Priya Ghanghas, and Preeti Pawar also secured medals with their quarterfinal victories on Day 6.

With Lamboria's latest win, India has accumulated a total of 12 medals at the Glasgow Games so far—two gold, seven silver, and three bronze—with more podium finishes likely as the boxers advance to the semifinals.
