Exciting Polo Match at Jaipur Polo Grounds

On a breezy evening marked by light rain, nearly 1,000 fans gathered at the historic Jaipur Polo Grounds to enjoy an exhilarating exhibition match between Jindal Panther and Jaipur Optiemus Achievers.

As reported by the Indian Open Polo Championship, the Jaipur Optiemus Achievers kicked off the game with a strong performance, with Alejo Aramburu and Sawai Padmanabh Singh each scoring twice in the first chukker. Jindal Panther responded with goals from Juan Gris Zavaleta and Ramiro Zavaleta, but the Achievers led 4-2 at the end of the opening chukker.

In the second chukker, the Achievers maintained their momentum, with Aramburu adding another goal to push the score to 5-2, showcasing impressive teamwork and skill.

Jindal Panther came back fighting in the third chukker, with goals from Juan Gris Zavaleta and Naveen Jindal narrowing the score to 5-4. However, the Achievers quickly regained control, with Sawai Padmanabh Singh and Pratap Singh Kanota scoring to end the first half at 7-4.

After halftime, Jaipur Optiemus Achievers continued to dominate. Sawai Padmanabh Singh scored two more goals in the fourth chukker, while Juan Gris Zavaleta added one for Jindal Panther, bringing the score to 9-5.

As rain intensified, the fifth chukker became the final segment of the match. Despite the challenging conditions, Naveen Jindal managed to score for Jindal Panther, but it wasn't enough to change the outcome, as Jaipur Optiemus Achievers secured a 9-6 victory in this thrilling, weather-affected match.

This event not only showcased high-level polo but also underscored the sport's increasing popularity, with a significant turnout despite the unpredictable weather.

After the match, Naveen Jindal expressed his admiration for the Jaipur Polo Grounds, stating, "This venue is historic for polo in India, having hosted the sport for over a century. It carries a rich legacy, including the notable 1922 match between Jodhpur and Patiala, which attracted over 150,000 spectators. This ground is the heart of Indian polo and home to the Indian Polo Association. Polo is a gift from India to the world, originating in Manipur before gaining global recognition."

He further noted, "The Indian Open Championship is the pinnacle of polo in the country, akin to a World Cup at the 14-goal level. Unfortunately, the heavy rain made conditions unsafe, as wet turf increases the risk of injury to the horses, leading to the match's early conclusion."

Jindal also highlighted the dedication of the players, stating, "Each player brings 8 to 10 horses, and today we had around 70 to 75 horses on the field, many of which are world-class breeds from Argentina and New Zealand. These horses are exceptional athletes, requiring extensive care, training, and a strong bond with their riders."

He concluded, "It's wonderful to see such a large audience today, with many experiencing polo for the first time. Watching the sport is one thing, but being on the field, whether as a player or alongside these magnificent horses, is a completely different experience. I truly believe polo will continue to grow and reach millions more."
