London, Aug 7: Ivan Toney, a player for England's FIFA World Cup 2026 squad, has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in connection with an alleged incident at a nightclub in London last year, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police on Friday.
Details of the Charges
The 30-year-old forward, currently with Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli, is accused of being involved in an incident that reportedly occurred at a Soho nightclub on Wardour Street on December 6, 2025, according to reports from a major news outlet.
Following reports of the assault, the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation. Toney was officially charged on July 31 and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24.
In a statement, the police noted, “A man has been charged with assault following a Met investigation. Ivan Toney, 30, of Northampton, was charged on Thursday, 31 July with assault causing actual bodily harm.”
Toney's Response
A spokesperson for Toney stated that the player recognizes the legal proceedings and plans to contest the charges. “Ivan acknowledges the charge and, while he is naturally shocked by the development, he welcomes the opportunity to clear his name before the court,” the spokesperson conveyed to the media.

As a prominent forward for England, Toney participated in the FIFA World Cup, contributing to the team's success, including their victory against France in the bronze medal match.
He began his professional journey with Northampton Town before moving to Newcastle United in 2015. His significant breakthrough occurred at Peterborough United, where his impressive goal-scoring abilities led to a transfer to Brentford in 2020.
At Brentford, Toney emerged as one of the top forwards in the Premier League, netting 72 goals in 141 matches across all competitions, including 36 in the league. His outstanding performances earned him his first call-up to the England national team in 2022, and he made his senior debut in March 2023.
