Historic Win for India in T20 World Cup Final

On the eve of the 2026 T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, Ishan Kishan faced a personal tragedy as he lost his cousin sister in a car accident. Despite this heartbreaking news, he delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 54 runs off just 25 balls, contributing to India's historic victory by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian team set a new world record with all three top-order batsmen achieving half-centuries, a first in the tournament's history.

In the post-match press conference, Kishan dedicated the win to his late cousin sister, sharing that he had spoken with Hardik Pandya, who encouraged him to focus on the team. "Honestly, I lost my cousin sister yesterday in a car accident. I played for her. Hardik bhai advised me to prioritize the team. I dedicate this victory to her, especially since today is Women's Day, making it even more significant," Kishan expressed.

Kishan's father mentioned that he was en route to Ahmedabad to witness the final but was unable to attend due to the tragedy. He revealed that both Kishan's cousin sister and her husband had passed away, while their two children survived. "Something terrible has happened. We are in a very big problem. We are all in shock. Ishan wanted to visit us, but he couldn't return because of the final. He is absolutely distraught," said Pranav Pandey during an interaction.

Kishan emerged as India's second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 317 runs at an average of 30.25 and a strike rate of 193.27, including three half-centuries.
