Ishan Kishan's Remarkable ODI Milestone
In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has made headlines by surpassing the 1,000-run mark in One Day Internationals (ODIs), becoming the fourth fastest player from India to achieve this feat.
Kishan reached this significant milestone during the second ODI against Afghanistan, where he scored an impressive 125 runs off just 79 balls, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes, and maintaining a strike rate exceeding 158.
This series marks Kishan's return to ODIs, and after a brisk 34 in the first match, he has now secured his second ODI century.
Across 29 matches and 26 innings, Ishan has accumulated 1,092 runs with an average of 45.50 and a strike rate above 107, including two centuries and seven fifties, with his highest score being an unbeaten 210.
He ranks as the fourth-fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in terms of innings, with Shubman Gill holding the record at 19 innings. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan follow closely with 25 innings, while Navjyot Singh Sidhu and Shreyas Iyer also share the same innings count.
Kishan achieved this milestone in just 966 balls, making him the fifth fastest Indian to do so, with all-rounder Hardik Pandya leading the pack at 857 balls.
In the match, Afghanistan chose to bowl first, but centuries from captain Gill (154 runs off 110 balls, including 22 fours and two sixes) and Kishan propelled India to a total of 402 all out in 49.5 overs.
Afghanistan's Nangeyaliya Kharoti (4/76) and Rashid Khan (3/48) were the standout bowlers for their team.
To level the series, Afghanistan needs to chase down a target of 403 runs.
