Ireland secured their spot in this 16-team tournament by finishing eighth in the last edition held in 2024.

Head Coach Peter Johnston expressed that the team's previous performances have instilled confidence and motivation within the squad.

“As we gear up for the Under-19 World Cup, we are filled with ambition and confidence. Our best finishes—10th in 2022 and 8th in 2024—have provided this group with the belief that we can compete against the world's top teams. I am incredibly proud of the dedication and professionalism displayed by the squad since September,” Johnston stated.

The U-19 team has benefited from the guidance of senior players like George Dockrell and Stuart Thompson, who have played a crucial role in mentoring the young athletes.

“Stuart Thompson has significantly enhanced the physical capabilities of the group, as evidenced by recent performance tests,” Johnston noted.

“Having experienced internationals like George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, and Lorcan Tucker involved as mentors has been invaluable for this team,” he added.

Ireland will kick off their tournament against the reigning champions, Australia, on January 16 at the Namibia Cricket Ground, and will also face Sri Lanka and Japan in their Group A matches.
