Iyer Acknowledges Ireland's Superiority in Series

In Belfast on June 28, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his disappointment over the series outcome, commending Ireland for their professionalism, adept understanding of the playing conditions, and outstanding fielding. He acknowledged that Ireland rightfully earned their series victory.

Iyer noted that while India's bowlers executed their strategies effectively, the batting lineup struggled to adapt to the pitch conditions and failed to convert singles into twos, which allowed Ireland to gain the upper hand during crucial moments.

Ireland achieved a remarkable one-run victory against the T20I World Cup champions, India, on Sunday, thereby securing the two-match series with a 2-0 scoreline.

"This series was certainly not up to our expectations, but I must commend Ireland for their performance. They displayed professionalism and had a clear understanding of how the pitch would behave, along with exceptional fielding. They deserved this comprehensive win, and I congratulate them," Iyer stated post-match.

"Our bowlers were exceptional in their execution today, but we fell short with the bat. We struggled to analyze the pitch effectively and did not convert singles into twos. Ireland definitely outperformed us in that aspect," he added.

This series victory marks a historic milestone for Ireland, as it is their first win against India in any format. They not only triumphed over the reigning T20 World Champions but also ended India's impressive 16-series winning streak in T20Is, which was previously the longest among full member teams, held by Pakistan at 11 from 2016 to 2018.

In a must-win match, India chased a target of 155 runs but could only manage 153 for 9. Earlier, Prince Yadav's impressive bowling performance (3 for 22) helped restrict Ireland to 154 for 8.
